VIDEO SUMMARY:

In this week's episode we are talking about the power of the spoken word, the power of a character's voice! Building on what we've discussed for the frame narrative, the unheimlisch and the doppelgänger, we are proceeding with a close reading of two passages: one from the beginning of the book and one from the end. These two passages show the reader how to understand what is about to follow by emphasizing the power of the spoken word. This is set in contrast to the town's secretiveness about the event. And this is further explored by the narrative itself consisting of the narrators piecing together of the events and putting words to them. It is the power of oral story telling. It is the transformative power of the myth.
