In the search for more bands that have not been fully uploaded on Youtube, I stumbled upon a seller looking to offer his CD's at a discounted price; Obscure Germanic death metal records at a bargain. And boyo what a bargain it was.
Though not german or germanic, this band reigning from france caught my eye due to its odd cover art. Evoking an esoteric vibe, the picture of a gaulish rune over an ethereal blueish background struck me as intriguing. The music itself holds a distinctive flair, both violent and occult and yet brimming with what could be considered peace. The EP is six tracks of death-doom, furious assaults tempered with a drifting, lonesome pace. i suppose the best way to describe this music would be melodic death-doom, as it contains what I would consider to be the properties of melodeth, as well as doom metal, though veering more on the side of the former. Though you will not quite drown in despair as the EP progresses, there is a tangible, unknowable aura to the music, from the calm yet distortion-laden ballad "Blind Crusade" with vocals from Jana Snajdrova that couldn't have been excluded to the desperate "The Awakening", which fits as the soundtrack to a broken man's midlife crisis. Overall, this record is a delicious slab of death doom from Frenchmen who most certainly know the ins and outs of their crafts.
