Okay, well, I do, but it's not a good one. So, instead of finding and uploading music during these troubling times, I was farming gold on World of Warcraft to earn my Long Boi. For those of you that don't know, that's a big dinosaur with an auction house. It's also going away next expac. Fuck Blizz, man.
Anyway, that is the reason I am late, and I humbly apologise. However, I have some treats for Youtube. As I sit here, I am listening to the Chiasm EP, Away, the first of two that have been created in collaberation with John Fryer. Both of them have 1 original song, some remixes of said song, and a last remix that is presumably of a track from a new album.
It's here that you'd normally see me fly into another rant about how Chiasm is the best anything of everything, so here goes. You likely know how I always start - Chiasm's best quality is her ability to sound different from song to song. I would also argue that her music and her voice is very maleable in terms of what kind of ways you can twist it. For instance, the original John Fryer instrumental is a soaring, almost epic sounding electronic sound, fueled by Rohn's ever reaching passionate voice. It makes the listener feel good, it's a damn strong track. Then, in comes the Interface remix of the track - A head-bobbing, danceable remix of a slower paced, almost Bowie-tinged track. I know it's redundant to commentate on this, because that's the point of a remix - To recontextualize a song and shift it into a different state of mind (and make money, but that's enough of the cynicism). But I think I've said before that Chiasm's music introduced me to remixes when I originally thought they were hot garbage, pointless warping of perfectly fine songs. Yet there are some Chiasm songs I'd actually argue are better in remixed formats (For instance, I'll never look at the Reset version of Locked In the same way I do as the In Hiding remix)
The next track is a slow, downtrodden Skydeck version of Away - And it reminds me of some of the most intimate tracks from Chiasm's portfolio - Ghostly notes slipping from Emileigh's microphone as the word "death" echoes unto the edge of obscurity, and the oblivious darkness of the lyrics sears at the back of synths. It's clear that Fryer - And whoever is making these remixes, be it Fryer or Rohn - Understands the strengths of Chiasm's voice and music, and how to play to them. A thought occurs to me as I listen to these remixes - When it comes to these remix tracks, there's a certain monotonous quality to the vocals - Not that they are especially bad or unemotive, more that they are... Compatible.
We have 4 different versions of this song, which are all well done, but yet use the same lyrics. Which makes me wonder if it is done this way in order to be able to make more remixes more easily - Making the song more maleable to the hands of others who wish to try their hand at making the song their own, in a sense using Rohn's voice as an instrument all their own. One could easily be cynical about this - But some fantastic things have come of this approach, if it is indeed the approach, such as the Rewind remix on Relapse. And we both know that we'll both buy this record, right dear reader?

The GW4 remix is probably the calmest track on the EP, I feel like just sort of sitting down and chilling when I listen to this one. Which just goes to show that point from earlier - The song itself is kind of like being in a space station, looking out, and just trying to make sense of it - As you fail to realize that you are really there, where you are, watching the stars.
The last track on the album is Frantic, mixed by :10:, someone who Chiasm has worked with before. The visual of a dying machine clawing its way along the floor, clinging to life is all that I can imagine as I listen to the instrumentals here - A trace of NiN influence present in both the instruments and the vocals. The latter half of this song features some of Chiasm's most despairing vocal notes, and I'd say that this is probably Chiasm's most industrial song to date, though I haven't heard what Are You Okay has to offer me just yet. A good way to close out the EP.
Well, there you have it. I've got my Long Boi, I've analysed another fine piece from Chiasm, and I have one less thing to give you guys. I hope that you guys enjoy the music I upload, I couldn't give a shit if you read all this (But if you did, thank you, you're a badass). And I hope to see you sooner than my last upload, my upload schedule has been awful as of recent.
