Check out this flight of the Estes Vogel Model Rocket! We got great footage at a recent launch, including a nice two-stage deployment.
What You'll See in This Video:
- The Estes Vogel rocket in flight
- Two-stage parachute deployment (drogue at apogee, main at lower altitude)
- Launch footage from multiple angles
- Recovery
About the Estes Vogel:
The Estes Vogel is a skill-level 4 model rocket kit designed for experienced builders. It features dual-deployment capability, meaning it ejects a small drogue parachute at the highest point of the flight (apogee), then deploys a larger main parachute at a lower altitude for a gentle landing. This is the same recovery technique used in professional high-power rocketry.
What is Dual Deployment?
Dual deployment is a recovery method where two parachutes are used: a small drogue chute deployed at apogee (the highest point) to bring the rocket down quickly but safely, and a larger main parachute deployed at a lower altitude (typically 300-500 feet) for a gentle landing. This reduces drift distance and helps the rocket land closer to the launch pad. Dual deployment requires an electronic altimeter to trigger the second deployment.
