This video shows the delay grain of a composite propellant rocket motor used in model rocketry. A drill hole is on the right-hand side to shorten the delay time of the motor. If the hole is too deep, in order to make a short delay motor, then a portion of the delay grain will burn after the ejection charge fires. This extra heat will also go out the top of the motor, and cook the inside of the rocket.
This used to be big problem with small composite motors like the old C4 (discontinued). Since most small motors are no longer drilled to shorten the delay, the Hibachi Effect isn't much of a problem today.
