Erin won first prize with composition ‘Nothing Here is Promised’, in the Off the Page category for Guildhall Young Artists competition 'RELEASE'.
Erin, from Junior Guildhall says: "My piece is inspired by Lin Manuel Miranda’s 2016 Tony Award acceptance speech, where he performs a sonnet on love and pride. The awards were hosted on the same night as the tragic shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, and the last line “Now fill the world with music love and pride” speaks to the importance of celebrating one’s community through music - I wanted my piece to be a celebration of these words and the staying power of love six years on from the event. The features of the piece include use of autotune and odd metric groupings to create an unique sound, and to continue my exploration of electronic music in combination with elements of music theory I find particularly interesting."
The category judge for Off the Page was Scott Stroman, Jazz Professor at Guildhall School.
