Today’s episode is a little different.
This is a short tribute to Erich von Däniken, the Swiss author whose 1968 book Chariots of the Gods? helped popularise the idea that ancient civilisations may have been influenced by advanced non human intelligences.
Erich von Däniken passed away in hospital on January 10th 2026 at the age of 90.
He was not a scientist, archaeologist, or historian. He was a writer. But few individuals have shaped the public conversation around ancient mysteries, extraterrestrial contact, and humanity’s origins quite like he did.
In this special standalone episode, I reflect on von Däniken’s life, work, and cultural impact, while also acknowledging the criticism his ideas received from mainstream archaeology and academia.
The episode also includes a previously unreleased audio interview I recorded with Erich von Däniken several years ago, ahead of his appearance at Contact in the Desert. The interview has been cleaned up for audio and offers a chance to hear directly from him in his own words.
Love his conclusions or reject them entirely, Erich von Däniken left a lasting mark on UFOlogy and popular culture and changed the questions many people were willing to ask.
