ERIC BACHMANN
One of the few European bands that managed to combine the typical "strict tempo" European ballroom style with the more rhythmic and melodic American dance band style.
Eric Bachmann started his career as an arranger, working for German, Swiss and Austrian artists during the 1950s and 60s.
Later he formed his own big band which consisted of 18 musicians. Feeling the need for a larger orchestra (partially because he felt this was required in order to be able to perform his own "more sophisticated" compositions-) he soon enlarged his orchestra up to 64 members.
Bachmann's arrangements usually include the whole range of available instruments, thus enabling all musicians to participate in a recording.

The two European countries with the biggest ballroom dance tradition are the United Kingdom and Germany.
It will come as no surprise that 80% of European ballroom dance orchestras are either British or German of origin.

A wonderful samba here that starts with the brass section playing the basic melody, followed soon by the strings backing the melody and samba rhythm. Some fine small arrangement "accents" here and there and a magnificent clarinet solo somewhere in the middle of the song. Entertaining from beginning to end, this one manages to grab your attention "all the way".
