When my 2016 Chevy Equinox got an ABS warning light, it turned out to be a wheel speed sensor error code. C0040 - 18 = right front wheel speed sensor.
I assumed that a wheel speed sensor error code, meant that it was the wheel speed sensor that needed to be replaced. Luckily it was inexpensive and easy to replace. Unfortunately the error code didn't go away. It turns out that there are 2 parts to a wheel speed sensor: the sensor and the ring on the back of the wheel bearing. And for me, it was a bad wheel bearing ring. So another $50 and replaced that. Then reset the code with the OBDII scanner and the error code was gone.
