Having an Epson ET-8550 Transportation Lock error even though the transportation lock is already in the printing position? In this video, Kevin and Abby troubleshoot an ET-8550 where the printhead carriage cannot move away from the capping station. We trace the problem through the PF drive system, transmission slider, capping station gear, and PF rod, and discover that the PF drive gear has slipped sideways and is no longer engaging the other gears. We also compare two ET-8550 versions and find that some printers have a retaining-ring groove while others do not, which may explain why this gear can gradually move out of position. We demonstrate how to manually lower the capping station and free the printhead, identify the failed drive connection, and show BCH’s replacement ET-8550 PF Drive Gear, available in OEM-size and longer XL versions for improved grip on the PF rod.
