Ucoat is not a paint but a professional chemical compound. Paints peel and lift. They lack durability and provide no resilience or lasting protection for your floor. That’s why the pro’s don’t use them.
Ucoat is an environmentally acceptable catalyzed coating system. Applied in liquid form over an easily prepared concrete surface, the chemical properties of the materials react to harden not only on, but actually into the surface of the concrete producing a plastic like finish.
This easy to apply water based, three component system is simply applied over dampened concrete ensuring penetration and adhesion.
Floor Prep/Surfacing
Floor prep is the most important part of the U-Coat-It system. First take a broom and sweep the garage floor clean.
Then rinse it down with a garden hose.
If you have oil stains on the garage floor, take the degreaser that comes in the kit and apply to the area.
Take a stiff bristled broom and scrub it thoroughly. Then use the garden hose to again wash the surface.
After that, follow the instructions included in the kit and add muriatic acid (available at swimming pool supply stores) to water.
Apply this to the concrete floor. What this application does is to actually set up a chemical reaction within the concrete that will help the epoxy U-Coat-It surface adhere to the floor.
Again, take a stiff bristled broom, sweep the area thoroughly making sure the entire surface has been covered, and use the hose to again wash down the garage.
Then mix the primer coating (it comes in three pre-measured cans) and use a roller to apply U-Coat-It to the damp concrete surface.
Once the primer coat dries (usually about 1 ½ to 2 hours) you’re ready to apply the finishing coat.
A unique design feature of the U-Coat-It system allows design choices. You can buy plastic colored flecks to enhance your finished look. Once the second coat is down and the floor is still wet, take a handful of the colored flecks from the jar, and toss them into the air over your floor.
The plastic colored flecks will fall into the wet surface, like we did in our show, giving the garage the look of Italian terrazzo marble.
Once this dries, put on a clear coat finish to seal the surface.
U-Coat-It floors stop fluids and chemical spills from soaking in and staining and they make clean up a snap… just use a paper towel or rag to wipe up any oil spills etc.
The coating also has anti-slip features which help prevent accidents and injuries.
