Built to survive - not to fight.
Ankylosaurus had armor up to 5 cm thick, reinforced with bony plates (osteoderms) fused into its skin. Even its eyelids were protected.
Its tail club could swing at speeds of over 30 - 40 km/h, delivering impact forces strong enough to shatter bone and disable predators. But it had a weakness: it couldn’t turn quickly.
Quetzalcoatlus hunted differently.
Instead of grappling, it likely used a “strike-and-withdraw” strategy - probing with its beak, looking for soft tissue, testing reactions.
On land, it moved on all fours - fast, but not agile enough to risk a close-range hit.
