The beautiful stretch of the Salmon River following Route 75 from Stanley to Challis in central Idaho, is also known as the Land of the Yankee Fork, after 19th century gold and silver mining operations that took place here. This is home to the ghost towns of Bayhorse, Custer and Bonanza, and the unique Yankee Fork Gold Dredge. It's a popular area for whitewater rafting, canoeing and kayaking, as well as fly fishing for salmon in their namesake river and soaking in numerous area hot springs. We explore the beauty, history, geologic activity and recreational opportunity of this entire stretch of river in this week's Grand Adventure, beginning with our riverfront campsite for the week at Bayhorse Recreation Site. We're based in Salt Lake City, Utah during the winter months, and invite you to come along as we travel all around North America.
