This joyful Indian classical music piece, arranged by Jayashri Ajaykumar, brings together the well-known ‘English Note’ composed by Harikesanallur Muttayya Bhagavatar, and the Nottuswara Sahityam ‘Santatam paahimaam’ composed by Muttuswamy Deekshitar. English Note, popularised as a concert piece by Madurai Mani Iyer, is still performed by contemporary musicians such as T.M.Krishna, Nithyashree Mahadeven, Prince Rama Varma and others. Muttuswamy Deekshitar’s Nottuswara Sahityams, simple melodies said to be inspired by Scottish and Irish tunes, can perhaps be described as the first of Carnatic Western fusions! Jayashri Ajaykumar, Varnashree M Murur (Vocals) sing this blend of English tunes that are close to the Carnatic ragam Shankarabharanam, accompanied by G.Sreenivasan (Violin), Niveditha Arun (Veena), Raghul.S.Raghava (Percussions) and Sudeendra C Apte (Ghatam).
The music, set to Trishra Eka talam, starts with the popular Titan watch ad theme - which comes from Mozart's Symphony no.25. This is followed by a fast-paced English Note. Santatam Pahimam - the tune of this song is the same as the British national anthem ‘God save the Queen’ - is literally blended in between the notes of the English Note.
