full title: Energy dependence of galactic cosmic-ray variations: lessons learned with LISA Pathfinder for the LISA test-mass charging

Low-uncertainty measurements of the galactic cosmic-ray (GCR) flux variations carried out with a particle detector above a few tens of MeV aboard the LISA Pathfinder spacecraft and neutron monitor observations allowed us to study the energy dependence of the GCR flux short-term variations in 2016-2017. An estimate of the test-mass charging during recurrent and non-recurrent Forbush decreases has been carried out for LISA Pathfinder. A dedicated multi-detector system for cosmic-ray observations aboard the three LISA spacecraft would allow us for in situ monitoring of the test mass charging variations due to the passage of solar wind high-speed streams and interplanetary counterparts of coronal mass ejections. These observations will be used to monitor the Coulomb forces on the test masses. Moreover, LISA will constitute a natural observatory of galactic and solar energetic particle events at small (1 degree between three S/C) and large (20 degrees between LISA and Earth) intervals in longitude for 6-10 years during the solar cycle 26.
