In May 2025, the Los Angeles Zoo secretly shipped elephants Billy and Tina to the Tulsa Zoo, already on our 2022 list of the 10 Worst Zoos for Elephants, for its terrible treatment of its existing elephants, deliberately defying scores of activists, renowned elephant experts, and lawmakers who for years advocated for sanctuary placement.
