What emotion are you trying to convey with your music?
Starting with this emotion in mind and figuring out how to describe it musically can be a great exercise for inspiration.
Think about the chords you could play, which instruments you could use or even the tempo and how those decisions can bring to life the emotion you want to communicate.
If you feel like your music sometimes sounds generic or is lacking some kind of soul then perhaps you are missing emotion.
In your next session try starting with an emotion in mind and spend some time thinking how to conceptulise it with audio and keep it in mind when making your decisions and choices amd see where it takes you.
