We have some new foster kitties in the house, here's their story:
Meet our new little foster family! They're on their way home to the Yukon on the last leg of an epic journey all the way from Avsallar in Turkey. The story of this little family has been dramatic to say the least! The mother cat Emily was a poor stray who lived on a 3rd floor balcony of an uninhabited apartment building which was totally inaccessible. Rescuer Manuela hurled food up the 3 stories for months. Eventually Emily made her way down to street level but then got somehow banged up and became alarmingly skinny. Her two kittens Miroku (boy) Kagomae (girl) born and all three were finally rescued. A wonderful family from the Yukon stepped up to adopt her and they were all set to fly off to live happily ever after together. But at the last minute Emily escaped from her crate and ran out into the busy airport in Turkey! For 3 days the rescuers searched frantically and desperately, putting posters everywhere until finally she was found in the airport's luxury lounge area, caught and brought back to Avsallar, while her kittens had flown ahead of her with a flight volunteer to San Francisco. A few weeks later another flight volunteer took Emily to reunite her with her babies in SF. Who knows what she ate at that airport when she was lost, because when she came to SF she stopped eating and started vomiting worms. She went to the vet, was treated and thankfully became very friendly and well again. After the kittens were spayed and neutered they were flown by volunteer pilots to Bellingham where they were picked up by yet another kind volunteer. Crossing over the border to Canada was a bit of a fiasco (border guards searched, detained and almost charged the volunteer $900 in duties!) So many kind individuals and charities all along the way have been helping to make this happen, including Catz Meow, Whiskers,Tails & Ferals and Pilots n Paws. And now to the next step of their journey with and then finally home to their forever family!
