“John From America” flew down from the sky
in the belly of silver-winged bird
With medicine, machinery and food in tin cans
they hung on to his every word
When the night curtain falls and the moon starts to rise
Tomorrow we’ll all have the same sun in our eyes
So keep building your airplanes out of straw and glue
and I will believe it all for you
Rosary beads rolled in your hands
Temples taller than trees
Prayers whispered in every language we’ve known
in every colour we’ve seen
Dust from the Sahara drifts out to sea
The hurricanes are sleeping, there’s air we can breathe
So wherever you find answers, wherever you find truth
I will believe it all for you
An old friend called me to tell me that he’s not
got much time left living on this earth
Said he’d spoken to the big man for the first time in a while
that he’d answered his prayers with these words:
When the darkness falls and your spirit starts to rise
Please don’t be scared that’s my only advice
And this story gives you strength and it lends me some too
and so I believe it all for you
Wherever you find answers, wherever you find truth
I will believe it all for you
