I've been getting emails saying that my Norton subscription will renew in 24 hours if I don't call them to cancel. And they provided a 1-800 number. So I called to see what the scam was. And it's definitely a scam.
The guy who answered the phone (from the "cancellation department") was very nice and instructed me to download legitimate software from the Internet. However, installing the software would allow him to control my computer (allegedly so that he could uninstall the software) but clearly he would just install malware on my computer once he had control.
I hate scammers like this. This is a rather convincing email because people often sign up for a subscription and want to cancel in the future so when they see this email, they think "oh - I forgot!"
Don't fall for the scam. Delete the email.
If you get strange charges on your credit card, call your credit card company. Believe it or not, they are on your side and will help you with fake charges.
Don't ever allow someone to take control of your computer online unless you are positive it's a legitimate service.
