World Health Organization (WHO) | Ella’s antimicrobial resistance story (AMR) @who | Uploaded June 2024 | Updated October 2024, 11 hours ago.
Born with cystic fibrosis, Ella has been hospitalized with infections ever since she was little and says she “will continue to advocate until antimicrobial resistance is no longer the greatest threat to my life”.
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites no longer respond to antimicrobial medicines, like antibiotics.
The World Health Organization’s ‘AMR is invisible, I am not’ campaign puts advocates—like Ella from the WHO Task Force of AMR survivors —front and centre, to share their stories, raise awareness and urge action to address AMR.
