This was the hardest boss for me so far because I just could not get enough damage to kill him at the very start of his second phase. I wish I had rune arcs because if I had Godrick's Great Rune active then this wouldn't have been as bad most liekly. Anyways in order to do enough damage to kill him before his really difficult second phase you need to use all the talismans I do as well as be low enough health for the buff from the red feathered branchsword talisman. For his move where he sends a wave of rock at you try to have Torrent take the brunt of the attack or it will be game over before it starts. Try to learn when to dodge is long wind up attacks. For his hovering fireballs that target you try to get rid of them as soon as possible by ride by them with Torrent in order to activate them but also get out of range quickly. When his second phase starts buff quickly (Flame Give Me Strength) then get next to where his left hand will land. Fully charge R2 his hand until you get him down. Instead of getting a critical hit do 2 fully charged R2s. If you didnt do enough damage then pray you can survive his second phase where he takes little to know damage. Good luck.
