Deadly Disasters: El Niño
Deadly Disasters - Earthquakes: youtu.be/t1b9MpGUcs8
It is estimated that between 1997 and 1998, “El Niño” took the lives of 24,000 people and created a startling $34 billion (US) in economic damages worldwide. In this documentary we explain what “El Niño” is and investigate why and how the weather pattern has caused some of the deadliest disasters of our times.
El Niño is a complex weather phenomenon that occurs irregularly every two to seven years. In 1997 to 1998, El Niño elicited global disaster: Hurricanes ravaged Mexico, floods caused half a billion USD in damages in California, and Indonesia suffered its worst drought on record.
This documentary will give insight into how the devastating floods in Peru came about, the causes of deadly drought in Africa, and why the UK was hit by such torrential rain in 2015 and 16.
Will the powerful “El Niño” continue to wreak havoc with our planet?
