Blackburn signed El Hadji Diouf from Sunderland in January 2009 for a fee of £1m. Rovers found themselves facing a relegation battle at the time due to a terrible run of results under former boss Paul Ince. His replacement, Sam Allardyce, set about bringing in experienced players that he could rely upon to help steer Rovers to safety and Diouf fit the bill.
The Senegalese wide man featured 14 times for Rovers in the latter half of the 2008/09 campaign and scored his first goal for the club in a 2-1 win at Craven Cottage in March 2009. Rovers would end the season away from relegation danger finishing in 15th place.
The 2009/10 season saw Diouf become a key member of the first team as Rovers finished the season in 10th place and reached the semi finals of the League Cup. Diouf made 27 appearances in all during the campaign and scored three goals. He scored his first goal at Ewood Park in a 3-1 win against Wolves in September and earned points for Rovers by scoring equalising goals against Sunderland and Chelsea respectively.
Diouf began the 2010/11 season in similar fashion, featuring regularly in a Rovers shrt. However, things took a turn for the worse for Diouf and the club upon the takeover by Venky's and the dismissal of Sam Allardyce as the manager. The arrival of a new, inexperienced, undeserving manager saw Diouf feature less often. Diouf was subsequently allowed to leave Rovers on loan in January 2011 and join Scottish club, Glasgow Rangers, where he would spend the rest of the 2010/11 campaign.
With Diouf not being fond of the new Rovers manager and vice versa, his return to the club in August 2011 saw his contract come to an end, as both parties agreed to a mutual termination.
