There has been massive hype this year surrounding Metaphor: Re-Fantazio.
This is the first title developed by Studio Zero, which is a subsidiary studio at Atlus, made up of key members of past Persona and Shin Megami Tensei
projects. While Metaphor Re-Fantazio is a brand new IP, it still feels a lot like it’s part of the Persona series, in its combat, social systems and time constraints. Essentially, the game is what you’d get if the Persona series graduated from high school, and entered a fantasy world, and I’m all for it!
And I’m not the only one, because the game sold over 1 million copies in its first day, which is insane.
It’s easy to see why though, as Metaphor is an incredibly solid turn-based JRPG experience, with many fans putting it in GOTY contention. Is it worthy of that claim? Watch this review and find out!

The JRPG genre has been evolving for around 40 years now. It has seen its share of ups and downs, but right now, its arguably in the best place that it has ever been. Since the early 80s, we’ve seen the releases of 1000s of JRPGs, or JRPG style titles, from hundreds of different developers, but it goes without saying that not all of them are created equally.
This series is going to look at the very best JRPGs ever made, or at least, my favorite. This is my personal top 100 JRPGs of all time! In 2016, Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness was released, and its reception was not so great. Most critics didn’t like it, and many fans were left disappointed, believing that it spelt the end for this long running JRPG series. Fortunately, this was not the case. In October of 2022, Star Ocean 6: The Divine Force was released. The series lived to see another day, and I was all for it.
Now, I’ve now played through the entire series, as part of my Star Ocean Sessions series, and wow, what a ride. The series has had its ups and downs, but I can, without hesitation, say that the Divine Force is up there with the best this series has to offer.

Today, we are up to the black sheep of the series, Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness. This game is widely considered the worst game in the Star Ocean series. Many fans thought this entry would mark the end of the series, which is why the announcement of Star Ocean 6: The Divine Force, surprised so many.
So, is SO5 as bad as people say it is? I came into this game expecting the worst, and honestly, don’t think it’s really that bad.

The Eiyuden Chronicle series is finally here. A few years ago, the Kickstarter of my dreams appeared. A brand-new IP from the makers of my favorite, Suikoden series. Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes had no problems with raising its required funds. In fact, it go there in no time at all smashing loads of stretch goals in the process. One such stretch goal was a companion game. That game is Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising.
Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising is a taster. It’s that tasty appetizer that you’re given before the best five course meal you’ve ever consumed in your life…. hopefully. It is not an expansive JRPG experience, full of hundreds of memorable characters, deep lore and an unforgettable story. It is instead, hopefully setting us up, for just that. Rising is like a pre-side quest to next years; Hundred Heroes.

As half the world has just been consumed with the 2022 FIFA world cup, what better time to release a sports RPG focused on Soccer! There’s something about sports RPGs that really appeal to me. I haven’t played too many games in this niche genre, but I’m always keen to jump aboard when they do pop up.
As the name suggests, Soccer Story tells a story, about soccer. You’ll spend time completing quests around town, to increase your stats, then compete against other teams in a retro soccer style game. Is Soccer Story worth playing? Watch this review and find out!
