In November 2024, Natasha, her friend Karlo, and their two dogs tragically lost their lives in a fire caused by a second-hand e-bike battery attached to a converted bike.
With remarkable courage, Natasha’s sister, Ehsia, now shares her story in hope of preventing another family from suffering such loss.
Karlo had no idea of the danger when he bought the second-hand e-bike battery online to convert his bike.
Their family could never have imagined that such a hazard could enter their home through a simple online purchase. Sadly, this is a risk that is more common than many of us realise.
We stand with Ehsia. We will continue to raise awareness of the dangers of unsafe e-bike batteries and conversion kits to help keep others safe. Our message, together, is clear.
Never attempt to convert a bike yourself.
Stick to reputable high-street retailers.
We’re urging the Government to introduce stricter regulations and hold third-party sellers accountable for selling substandard products on online marketplaces.
