Educators at Aberdeen Middle School are facing criminal charges on allegations they failed to report an alleged rape, jeopardizing a subsequent investigation, police said. According to Aberdeen police, former Principal Regina Jones, 44, and former paraeducator Tanya Johnson, 56, each face a charge of failure to report a rape incident after a student told them they were a victim of rape. An investigation determined that the alleged rape occurred on April 12, 2023, and the victim reported the incident to Aberdeen Middle School staff the next day. But police said investigators weren't alerted until hospital staff called on April 18, 2023, about a rape involving a juvenile victim.
