Oh lord, I have more words... my hand hurts...
But this is something I've been wanting to do for a while nao, like. People do "draw it again" to show how much they've improved, so I wanted to try it with editing. Just this part. I'm not doing the rest
I guess I was suppose to be "cringy" or something towards the first part, but honestly?? Watching it again just made me super nostalgic? Like yeah, it's not my best work anymore, but it was back when I still had that deep, passionate love for editing. I still do, but that was back when it first started, ya know? It was special
Back when I was ripping off Disney vids. This one was a rip-off, actually. lol
Like... a couple different things, I guess, regarding the parts
2009:
This was back when I was first learning how to story-tell in my editing, and I just remember being so proud when I could like, make it obvious what the actions and reactions were. Like, "Oh, Anzu flashes a thumbs up, I'll have Mana smile at that!" Still proud of that one
And this was obviously back when I was first learning how mask. I don't know what that overlay was, but maaaaaan, back in the day, all I ever wanted to do was overlays...
Also always love when someone like, uses a shot of a character being shocked to like, show how "hot" another character is. Like, especially when it's a look of horror. Just... classic
Also, obnoxious coloring to hide my masking flaws and when the backgrounds change. It's not too obnoxious here, but like, holy shit, I hurt my own eyes
This style did take a lot less time tho, wow. I think this original part took me like, ten minutes? And the new one took like... all week :'D
2017:
Back when I was new at masking, I'd only do like, one or two, and cover the rest with scene mixing. My goal was to basically try and match up the backgrounds. Which I did not do too well here
Anyway, nao I just mask out both characters and put them in a whole new environment. It's a lot less restricted, because I'm free to use more screentime without worrying about the backgrounds matching. But it takes hella longer lol
And then putting Mana in modern clothes. I've been outfit-bending a lot recently, and I just love the effect it gives off :'D . Although I did think Mana would be easier to de-hat than DMG. She was not
Buddying her up with Marik - like... if you've got the time, or the story to reflect it, honestly adding friends and side characters really helps flesh out the illusion. Cuz like, even in romantic movies, there's not just the main couple, these people have friends. I was gonna add a third person to emphasize that this is a friendship and Mana's not like, ditching her date for some girl, but... I got lazy :'D
Also camera movements that make more sense
Oh and hands
I will never be done masking hands
Nah but like, srsly, if any of y'all get the chance, I highly recommend trying this out, it's like, such an eye-opener over how much your work has improved over the years, and it's fun^^
