This is a second test of the Echolaliator, an interactive computer improvisation tool I'm working on, at the Salon for Artistic Experimentation. The system listens to incoming audio and records short segmented phrases. Each time the player pauses, the system responds, playing one of the stored phrases that is similar to what it just heard (in this version, it compares the first pitch of each phrase). Here I'm playing trombone with it, and talking a bit as well. The graphics show the set of recorded phrases, colored by pitch, with the position of each phrase around the circle determined by its first pitch.
Echolaliator is implemented in javascript for the Chrome browser using p5.js.
