Speaking (singing?) of a song that never ends, both males and females sing loud and proud! Sometimes they even sing directly from their nests, which is considered unusual — and it's a habit that can unfortunately tip off nest predators and other unwelcome guests. Never fear, the vireo can recognize intruder eggs and remove them with remarkable accuracy.
🌳 Found in deciduous forests, river-edge trees, and even neighborhood parks, these vireos migrate each year to spend their nonbreeding season in southern Mexico and Central America.
Until 2025, Eastern and Western Warbling Vireos were considered the same species, but new research highlighted differences in genetics, behavior, and song, revealing that this subtle, gray-brown bird is its own distinct species!
