Big excitement here. What, what could possibly be going on here? Earthworms, fertilising the soil. Limbricus terrestris. This is the beauty of leaving them undisturbed, they do all this work for us all the time.

Earthworm activity is what we want plenty of in our soils and this is one sign of it, the surface casts with a hole underneath. They are different to Brandling worms which you find in wormeries
