There’s quite a few versions of Meteor Rush that precede even this one, though I wasn’t really involved with them and thus have no files or footage of them. This is the first that began to resemble the final, but a lot of work was needed from here to make the stage actually fun to play. Only the first section was playable in this version, but after testing it we found it wasn’t particularly fun, and focused too heavily on simple boost/homing attack sequences without much other required input.
From there, a lot of small reworks were done to significantly increase the quantity and variety of player interactions in the level, which resulted in implementing more airboost, sliding and quickstep sections, plus increasing the Avatar’s usage through wire drifts, wire targets and Wispon paths. To mix things up even more, some basic 3D areas were replaced with more complex 2D sections as well. The final version of Meteor Rush wound up using literally every element in the Tag Team toolkit at least once, making it a far more dynamic and engaging experience from this version, even if this early iteration looks superficially similar to the final.
