A History of House Lothston: Harrenhals Second Witch Queen Grey Waste Tim 2023-10-14 | One of the most haunted houses to stumble into the Harrenhal trap, House Lothston rose from humble origins to the heights of infamy. Said to have performed dark deeds and horrors, their wicked ways finally culminating in the rule of Mad Danelle - an Elizabeth Bathory figure rumored to have bathed in blood and performed dark magic. Here we will chart the beginnings of this bloody house, their rise to prominence, their fall from grace, and their supposed extinction. I'll also be showcasing a tinfoil theory I have crafted regarding Brynden Rivers, Melisandre, and - the original Witch Queen of Harrenhal - Alys Rivers, to illustrate how House Lothston's relationship with Bloodraven may have influenced both their downfall and the wider story at large. The poem's speaker is Tithonus himself: a legendary prince of Troy who fell in love with Eos (aka Aurora), Goddess of the Dawn. Wanting to be with his lover forever, Tithonus begs her to make him immortal, which she does. Alas, she neglects to make him immortally youthful. When this poem takes place, Tithonus has grown unspeakably ancient, and longs for the ordinary, humble mortal fate that he earlier rejected: death becomes almost his only desire. A Dance With Dragons opens with Tyrion's flight from King's Landing after killing his father, where he ends up in the flabby arms of Illyrio Mopatis. He's been scheming with Varys since book one yet this is the first time we really get to know the man. What we see is the weaker link in the duo - one who talks too much and lets his mask slip too often. Out of the Ages by Lin Carter: Xothic Legend Cycle Read Aloud Grey Waste Tim 2023-09-01 | The Xothic legend cycle is a series of short stories by American writer Lin Carter that are based on the Cthulhu Mythos of H. P. Lovecraft, primarily on Lovecraft's stories "The Call of Cthulhu" and "Out of the Aeons".The cycle is centered on a trinity of deities said to be the "sons" of Cthulhu: Ghatanothoa, Ythogtha, and Zoth-Ommog. Together with Cthylla, introduced in Brian Lumley's Titus Crow series, they make up the Star Spawn. The five stories that make up the cycle (in chronological order) are "The Dweller in the Tomb" (1971), "Out of the Ages" (1975), "The Horror in the Gallery" (1976), "The Thing in the Pit" (1980), and "The Winfield Heritance" (1981).The cycle introduces various mythos elements, such as the Zanthu Tablets, the Ponape Scripture, Father Ubb and the Yuggs, and two new Great Old Ones: Ythogtha and Zoth-Ommog. Mythos in ASOIAF: Weirwoods and the House of the Worm - Live Reading and Discussion Grey Waste Tim 2023-07-15 | "The House of the Worm" by Mearle Prout. First Published in Weird Tales in October 1933. Although containing no direct references to Lovecraft's works or the greater Cthulhu Mythos, "The House of the Worm" has long been touted as a Mythos tale. Author George RR Martin does not approve of fan fiction being published of his own work, and yet he got his very start writing fan fiction. One such story, "In the House of the Worm," would be a spiritual sequel to this tale, first published in 1976 as part of his greater Thousand Worlds universe. Such was the impact and influence that Mearle Prout's original Weird Tale would have. It's influence can still be felt in the greater World of Ice and Fire, evidenced through the Weirwoods, the White Walkers of the Wood, and the Long Night. In this stream we will take a look at these direct influences and parallels as we read aloud this Weird Tale. Lovecraft in ASOIAF: The Tomb of the Black Pharaoh and The Heart of Winter Grey Waste Tim 2023-04-01 | Jon was killed by Squishers?! Well, maybe. From the Seastone Chair to the black stone buildings of Asshai, up to the Red Comet and back to the Weirwood Trees, author George RR Martin has a habit of sneaking in Lovecraftian items and tweaking them into his own narrative creations. When it comes to the fabled Heart of Winter the same seems to hold true. In this stream we will take a look at what awaits us by delving into Lovecraft's own tale of a black stone worshipping God-King - The Black Pharaoh Nephren-Ka. We will also take a look at the expanded mythos influenced by later writers Brian Lumley and Lin Carter (one of George's past editors) and what this means for both our Night's King figures - Jon and Euron. We will also take a look at two short stories of this mythos, "In the Hall of the Yellow King" and "In His Daughter's Darkling Womb" to see how the downfall of one may be influenced by the Kraken's Daughter.
