Here's how to use a cast iron dutch oven to bake cornbread in your fireplace. Its the same as baking over a campfire, except it is in your living room. Nice, right? Cornbread Recipe:
4 tablespoons of bacon drippings, veg oil, or butter
1 1/2 cup cornmeal, medium or coarse ground
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup sugar, less if you like.
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 cup milk
2 eggs
Put oil, butter, or fat into dutch oven, place over coals to melt.
Mix the dry ingredients together in a medium bowl.
Scramble the eggs into the milk, add to dry ingredients.
Add the milk and eggs into the dry ingredients, mix but don't over mix.
Pour into dutch oven with melted fat in it.
Bake about 35 min in fireplace.
