Dummy batteries are great for keeping cameras from overheating because they don't get hot running the camera like internal batteries do because the battery being used is outside the camera and can run the camera a lot longer because the battery being used can be a lot bigger. NPF batteries are great for this.
In many cases- dummy batteries can create MORE heat that the actual battery! A USB-C PD buck-converter dummy produces roughly the same or slightly less heat than a real battery.
A USB-A 5 V boost-converter dummy can generate 1½–2½ × more heat inside the bay than a real pack.
A hollow dummy powered by an external regulator keeps the bay effectively cool (no internal heat).
Real battery = 1× heat
USB-C dummy ≈ 0.8–1.2×
USB-A dummy ≈ 1.5–2.5×
External converter ≈ 0×
USB-A creates more heat than USB-C because creating 7.5 volts from 5 volts requires more effort, as opposed to cutting 9v down to 7.2, but both generate heat in the process and on a sunny hot day, the last thing you want is ANY heat being generated inside the camera because it accumulates and builds.
