The last thing you want when you travel is a fire. In fact you don't want one either in your car or home, and battery fires are quite common, but not because the batteries are aging, but because they are loose in a drawer or glove box or in travel luggage. Batteries can catch fire or even explode if the contacts touch metal objects or other batteries, so ALWAYS have your batteries in some kind of protective plastic case or wrap, or even sandwich bags or plastic wrap. A bit of safety advice for photographers, wedding photography, event photography, hiking, and anything to do with camera, video, photography or travel. Or even that junk drawer in your office, kitchen and garage. Be safe, not sorry.
