Sanek, maker of the excellent User Map Winterfall, returns with a Bridge Between Two Islands from 2013 taking place in a large outdoor area. The verticality from the start of the level I did see reminded me of trekking up the path of Billy Boy's Lighthouse (Also knows as Biglight), so I imagine a similar journey is ahead for our old friend, Duke Nukem.
Then we go back to 1997 with Mega Plaza Shopping Center by Andras Piroska. A very classic map with a creative mall given the limitations and early days of the User Map scene. It had some neat visuals.
For the final map comes from a trio of mappers, Willam Gee, and the brothers, Merlijn & Maarten van Oostrum. Operation: Get Bike Back came out in 2003, but it limited itself to just the art assets from the original, non-Atomic release of Duke Nukem 3D. A fun, action packed level, which really shows the direction every author would continue on in their future maps.
What we do in these streams is showcase user created content to show what kind of passion and creativity this niche community has crafted to show others what Duke Nukem 3D has to offer for any Retro Boom Shooter FPS lovers, or even old Duke Fans (like myself) who may have not dipped their toes into the user content world. Additionally, we take a look at how these 2.5D games create their 3D world from a level design perspective as I try to learn from those who came before me since I'm currently making a map of my own for Duke Nukem 3D using Mapster32, the included level editor for eDuke32.
