Today's featured Let's Play User Map for Duke Nukem 3D is another new release for 2024, Memories by Zykov Eddy. His classic Duke map, The Dream, is one of the first user maps I remember ever downloading (we've also covered the whole trilogy on this channel) and was the first map I remember seeing to try and twist into a more abstract, horror direction, which really landed for me. Well, after spending years away from mapping for Duke Nukem, he dusted off Mapster32 and gifted us this. He notes that this was really meant to reach back to that classic feeling, the nostalgia, the memories, but it also has some new additions to surprise us to.
After that, we are back to mapping our own Build Engine level! We are continue to fiddle around with Mapster32 as we build a 90's inspired mall, though right now we are working on an adjacent building. We have been doing some timed mapping sessions to start our streams, but like last week, we won't today. I have a dinner for Easter, so I didn't want to run another map and half to stop midway, so instead, more mapping! Today though, I actually have a level design plan...
What we do in these streams is showcase user created content to show what kind of passion and creativity this niche community has crafted to show others what Duke Nukem 3D has to offer for any Retro Boom Shooter FPS lovers, or even old Duke Fans (like myself) who may have not dipped their toes into the user content world. Additionally, we take a look at how these 2.5D games create their 3D world from a level design perspective as I try to learn from those who came before me since I'm currently making a map of my own for Duke Nukem 3D using Mapster32, the included level editor for eDuke32.
