The Environment Agency’s official figures have confirmed that data from our annual Event Duration Monitoring (EDM) submission shows a 31 per cent reduction in spill duration, with the number of spills from overflows falling by 20 per cent – that’s 19,720 fewer spills than the year before. This is also despite more rainfall during 2024 and a year in which we saw nine named storms hit the region.
Across the region, early investment at a number of sites has been key to delivering benefits to spill reduction. Solutions have included new storage tanks, sustainable drainage solutions and significant network enhancements. Take a look at some of these projects in action.
