Our teams are busy making an early start on a multi-million pound package of investment at four sites around Windermere to reduce the impact of stormwater overflowing from sewers into the lake.
By 2027 we will have finished constructing new stormwater storage tanks and implemented natural solutions at Hawkshead, Ambleside, Elterwater and Near Sawrey, at a cost of £41 million, reducing spills by 50% on 2022 figures.
This latest round of investment isn’t the start of the story. Windermere has been at the forefront of wastewater innovation and upgrades for many years. Allan is our process controller looking after Windermere treatment works. In this video he joins up with construction supervisor Mark Adair to share the difference this investment has made.
