Modeling of the Dreyse Needle Carbine. Like it's older brother, the Needle Carbine (German: Zundnadelkarabiner M/57) shares the same straight-bolt breech-loading mechanism that demonstrated it's effectiveness during the German wars of unification. The design of the carbine involved cutting down the rifle to nearly half it's original length. The compact design would accommodate it's use by Prussian dragoons, allowing them to fire while on horseback if necessary, and load them from just about any angle. The trade off was accuracy, as the shorter barrel reduced ballistic efficiency compared to other carbines used by fusiliers or skirmishers. Both the dragoons and hussars were armed with cavalry sabers for the attack and needle carbines for defense, in addition to their smoothbore percussion pistols.
This model was designed in Blender 4.1.1. in the 1/35 scale. Total modeling time came in at 1 hour and 40 minutes.
