Eglisau, officially a town, is considered being one of Switzerland’s most beautiful villages. It lays in the northern Part of Switzerland in the canton of Zürich. Eglisau is located at the River Rhein, along which the old town was built. On a yearly basis, Eglisau hosts the largest dragon boat festival of Switzerland. It’s a cultural event to which everyone is welcome to attend: as participant or just as spectator. Eglisau is easy to travel to by taking the train or otherwise by car. During the dragon boat festival, it is highly recommended to arrive by public transport. The tradition of dragon boat originates from the chinese people but meanwhile has become popular in other parts of the world. The dragon boat race festival is a yearly competition that takes place on the last weekend of June. In 2022 the race has been hosted for the 30th time. Registration for groups opens on 1st of April on 12 pm. Book fast, because within only 2 minutes it’s going to be fully booked! Each group consists of 20 people; there are male, females and mixed categories. The latter is the most common. For mixed category, there will have to be an equal number in male and female members. The dragon boat race is fun to watch: there will be many spectators cheering the teams, the races are in general very close thus really exciting to see how it gets won within the last 100-200 meters! The dragon boat festival is held on Saturday and Sunday just by the river side of the old town of Eglisau. Besides the race, there will be a big party with free admission! Thus, a great cultural event to be visited for budget travelers. Enjoy watching the races, being part of a team for racing, celebrating with all kinds of people and swimming in the river Rhein. Besides the dragon boat festival, do not miss to take a walk through the village of Eglisau, it’s really beautiful!

June marks the beginning of summer in Switzerland. Expect warm and pleasant temperatures, typically ranging between 18°C and 28°C in lower regions. The days are long with plenty of daylight, making it perfect for exploring. In the mountains, temperatures are cooler, especially at higher altitudes.
👥 Tourist Season & Crowds
June sits just before peak season, making it a sweet spot for travel. Compared to July and August, there are fewer tourists, meaning you can enjoy popular destinations like the Berner Oberland, Zermatt, and Lucerne with a more relaxed atmosphere.

Switzerland is full of beautiful cities! They are urban, vibrant and very happening. Although Switzerland is a small country, the diversity among the cities is very noticeable. The architecture, the art and the culture differ a lot from city to city. You will find the cities of Switzerland by the river, lake or even in the valleys. Each city has its unique appearance as well as its hotspots and attractions of where to go to.
Sion is the capital of the very touristy canton of Valais (Wallis). Interestingly, Sion is only little known but ranks easily among the most beautiful cities of Switzerland. Sion feels like being in Italy but is a French-speaking city. Sion is vibrant, full of street art and also a foodie hub. The most remarkable however are the two castles up on the hills. Lugano is the largest city of Ticino in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland. Lugano lays by the lake, surrounded by the Swiss Alps, and one can feel that Italy is quite near. Lugano charms with its many alleys, culture, lake promenade and its view points. The best view over the surrounding and the city of Lugano you can get at the Monte Brè or Monte San Salvatore. Basel is the hub for the pharmaceutical industry. Basel is an old city and full of culture. It’s important to explore the many alleys with their colorful houses, see the red city hall, the minster and cross the bridges. Basel has a strong connection to its traditions. Important to mention here are the Vogelgryff and the Morgestraich. Bern is the federal city (capital) of Switzerland and the only town that is considered UNESCO world heritage. Very typical for Bern are the many arcades and the fountains. Bern’s old city is really a highlight, thus make sure to spend here at least half a day. Neuchâtel is in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, a town that feels Mediterranean and sort of French/Italian. The highlight of Neuchâtel are the lake promenade, the graffiti alley and the collegiate church with the castle. Schaffhausen is probably the largest and best preserved old city in Switzerland. Schaffhausen’s old town charms with its colorful houses and oriel windows (balcony windows). Schaffhausen is easy to explore by walk it’s pretty much car-free. The best things to do in and around Schaffhausen are a visit to the Museum zu Allerheiligen, walking at the Vordergasse alley, going up to the Munot and seeing the nearby Rhinefalls. The Munot is a centre for culture and hosts various events. Zurich is the largest city in all of Switzerland. It’s the hub for innovation and business but at the same time is a very touristy destination. Zurich’s old city concentrates around the Limmat quay. Walk along the river Limmat, enter the many protestant churches or head up to the Lindenhof and Polyterrase to enjoy a great vista over the old city of Zurich. Zurich is modern but also very cultural; the major event being the Sechseläuten festival. Fribourg is a city on two levels. The old city of perfectly preserved and thus great to explore. Ascend the church tower of the St. Nicolas cathedral or the Loretta chapel to enjoy a brilliant vista. Fribourg city has also some similarities with Luxemburg. Solothurn is the most beautiful baroque city of Switzerland. The old town is full of beautiful houses and concentrates around the river Aare. The major landmark is the St. Urseren Cathedral that offers you a great view from its tower. Lucerne is no doubt the most beautiful of the Top 10 Swiss Cities. Lucerne has been a favorite for many tourists since it offers so many great things such as a charming river promenade along the Reuss, a great view over Lake Lucerne (Vierwaldstättersee) and the Swiss Alps and otherwise seems very inviting with its alleys and painted houses. Lucerne’s best attractions are the Jesuitenkirche, Gletschergarten museum and many more. Explore Lucerne on the water by taking a boat ride or head up to Mount Pilatus to get a perfect vista over the Swiss Alps and this old city.

Goms is far away from the urban centres of Switzerland. It’s a blessing and a curse at the same time: Being barely inhabited these days but yet so well preserved, the villages of Goms are indeed very alluring. On your drive through Goms, do not forget to make a stop at Ulrichen, Münster and Biel (VS)! These villages are very picturesque and for sure, in here you are going to be likely alone! Although the villages yet remain rather forgotten, Goms these last years got more international recognition due to its amazing suspension bridge. The Goms Bridge is one of the best of its kind in Switzerland. Being shared so many times on Instagram it can be considered a hot photo spot. Which season is the best? Well… I don’t think there is any that is not great. Goms is perfect to visit any time of the year, which makes it really special.
