STORYLINE:
Dozens of Syrian refugees on Saturday were taking shelter in a parking lot outside the Sidon municipality building after fleeing southern Lebanon amid heavy strikes.

They were only able to carry few belongings before they left.

"There are no relief or registration centers for Syrians, we are all Syrians" said Syrian refugee Ismael al-Nassar.

He added: "The people are staying in the streets and there are no services or anything, we call upon the United Nations and the international agencies to intervene."

The United Nations says the number of those displaced by the conflict from southern Lebanon has more than doubled, with more than 211,000 people now displaced.

At least 20 primary healthcare centers have shut down in hard-hit areas of Lebanon, the U.N. Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said.

Lebanon’s Hezbollah group confirmed on Saturday that its leader and one of its founders, Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut the previous day.

A statement Saturday said Nasrallah “has joined his fellow martyrs.” Hezbollah vowed to “continue the holy war against the enemy and in support of Palestine.”

Hezbollah began firing rockets into northern Israel in support of Hamas after it stormed into Israel, sparking the Israel-Hamas war.

Top Israeli officials have threatened to repeat the destruction of Gaza in Lebanon if the Hezbollah fire continues, raising fears that Israel’s actions in Gaza since October 7 would be repeated in Lebanon.
