The audience for Indian films worldwide is very large, so imagine if we can incorporate Emirati culture or include the top Abu Dhabi sites (in the films.) We’re talking about a boost to our tourism sector and an exchange of cultures. We can also expect a boost in economy because the revenue from and budget of Indian films are massive.”

STORYLINE:
Indian film actors and singers glammed up and walked the green carpet at the 24th International Indian Film Academy Awards on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.

The event celebrated south Indian cinema and honored the talents of Hindi cinema.

“This year IIFA has been incredible, because it really got the Indian film industry together, whether it was Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, they all got the same platform,” said Indian filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra won the Best Director award, while the Performance in a Leading Role award went to Rani Mukerji and Shah Rukh Khan for his role in "Jawan."

Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan also hosted the event.
