In this video I explain how to access real crime data for any location in England and Wales from data.police.uk/data
I demonstrate how to download and interpret this data, and filter data by the crime type and geographic area known as a LSOA (Lower Layer Super Output Area). You can process this data in a spreadsheet, but for student use I recommend using a database management system such as mySQL or Microsoft Access.
I show you how to filter the data to reveal crimes in your local area.
Just knowing about this data could be a great starting point for discussing data privacy, security and how computing / ICT affects our lives.
