Doomsday is often remembered as the monster who killed Superman, but in Justice League Unlimited, he has a very different role. Their battle was more than a brutal fist fight, it was a moral pressure test, forcing Superman to compromise his values.
In this video, I talk about how Doomsday's comic book origins, and how the writers on Justice League adapted him. In there show he was a twisted clone of Superman who didn’t just challenge Superman physically, he challenged his moral code.
From the Justice Lords’ decision to lobotomise him, Cadmus’ growing fear of unchecked power, and Superman feeling forced into emulating The Justice Lords, this story forces a difficult question:
Was the world wrong to fear Superman?
Because Doomsday shows what Superman is capable of when he feels like his back is against the wall.
