Learn how to make much better-looking water in DOOM via the "flat warping" feature. This can obviously be applied to other flats as well (like nukage and lava) and even textures. And yes, you can even combine it with deep water to make your pools/lakes/oceans that much more awesome!

$Apocryph (PC) Alpha Gameplay (Awesome Heretic successor!) Gameplay from the alpha version of Apocryph, an upcoming oldschool FPS that pays homage to such classics as Heretic, Hexen, and Painkiller. Although it has a long ways to go, Im already very impressed with what Ive seen. The Heretic/Hexen influence is clear, from the oldschool HUD at the bottom of the screen (including the item inventory) to the satisfying Hahaha! that plays each time you collect a brand new weapon. Apocryph also has some really cool features that help it stand out. One such feature, seen in this video, is the Painkiller-esque dynamic music. Outside of combat its creepy and atmospheric, but when combat begins it launches into a mixture of hard-rock and techno. Coolest of all, however, is the ability to enable Quake-style fractured animations and even pixelize the entire screen in order to give the game an extra oldschool look. I didnt enable these features for this video, but I may upload another showing them in action!
