This might be the very first ever live, public performance of ABBA's newest song, "Don't Shut Me Down".
My husband, Benjamin Till (piano) and I (vocals), performed the GLORIOUS "Don't Shut Me Down" at Sicily Restaurant, in Victoria in London on Sunday the 12th of September 2021.
I was co-hosting the open-mic, piano-bar, cabaret night, with my good friend, and the mastermind behind these singalong evenings, the "other" Nathan, Nathan Martin. It was a huge thrill for us to be able to share ABBA's fabulous new song, "Don't Shut Me Down" with a mixed audience of people, some of whom knew the single, and some who were hearing the song for the very first time.
Benjamin and I are lifelong ABBA fans, and the announcement of the first new music in 40 years thrilled and delighted us. We both watched the unveiling of the new music together, clutching each others' hands, and I don't mind admitting that when I heard the chorus of "Don't Shut Me Down" for the first time, there were tears streaming down my cheeks.
The piano arrangement is by Benjamin, transcribed brilliantly, after listening to Don't Shut Me Down on a loop for two weeks solid.
All I can say about this song is: Thank you, ABBA. It was worth the wait.
