I've been working on this game for a while. To my knowledge I'm the first one to run this game version. It was really fun to find new tricks in an unexplored game and to route the run from start to finish, with the only help being an unfinished TAS of the Sega Genesis version (which, as of yet, also has no completed RTA speedruns of), and it was especially an honor since this was one of my favorite games from my childhood.
Fairly happy with the run. Some hiccups in a few places (especially in The Realm of the Dead), but this run also includes the best level 5 boss (the frog) I've ever had and thanks to it I snagged the first sub-17 run. I will probably keep going for a bit of a lower time still.
I used JoyToKey to be able to properly use a controller. The game does have native controller support but it only supports the analog stick and not the dpad. I hate using an analog stick for 2d sidescrollers and I didn't want to use a keyboard either, so I took this solution instead. In the eyes of some, using a third party application to rebind controls might make a speedrun feel less legitimate but eh, this is the only way I felt like controlling the game and I don't feel like I gained any special advantages with this specific application.
And while I'm at it, here's the controls I've been using:
Morph/Ammo: Right Bumper
Attack/Shoot: X
Jump: A
Quick Morph: Left Bumper
Teleport: Y

Sub 31! The time could be pushed much lower but Ill put it on hold for now since this category is very reset-heavy on Ribby and Croaks thanks to the new discoveries.
(I know the layout says All Bosses No Major Glitches, there were supposed to be some category changes that ended up going in a different direction)
My controls:
Jump: Right Bumper
Shoot: X
Ex Shoot: Left Trigger
Switch Weapon: A
Lock: Left Bumper

Still lots of time saves. Got a 1:00 Hilda (+4), 0:33 Grim (+4), 0:33 Rumor (Why did I have to choke the one-cycle, +5), 1:31 King Dice (+5), 0:45 Devil (thanks spider, +7), plus a few minor time losses (I guess I lost 4 extra seconds on Ribby and Croaks over the extremely difficult super skip but I hardly can complain about that fight). Highlight of the run was Baroness Von Bon Bon with a near-perfect fight and a time of 0:28.
My controls:
Jump: Right Bumper

Lots of bad fights: 1:02 Hilda, 0:36 Baroness, 0:41 Wally, 0:37 Rumor. On the other hand I also had a number of great fights (0:30 Beppi, 0:39 Cala, 0:43 Devil and my first ever 1:27 King Dice). Sub 24 is closer than ever!
Still salty about that accidental parry on Beppi though

Didnt go for Hilda Glitch, a few rough splits but a solid deathless run nonetheless. Ill leave this time be for now to focus on Regular mode.
Apologies for no webcam and a worse microphone. I dont have access to better equipment currently, I will be back with my old setup soon enough.
