Don Walker sits down with Australian Musician editor Greg Phillips to discuss his fifth solo album, Love Songs, the art of songwriting, recording, and the musicians and influences behind his latest work. The legendary Cold Chisel songwriter talks about how the Love Songs album came together, why some songs can take more than 20 years to find their way onto a record, and the challenge of knowing when a song is truly finished.
Walker also reflects on his influences, including Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and Thelonious Monk, his fascination with Latin American composer Astor Piazzolla, and the 14-minute epic "Darwin". He discusses working with his band, the loss of longtime collaborators Glenn Hannah and Roy Payne, recording at Headgap Studios in Melbourne, mixing in Nashville, and the importance of album sequencing and vinyl.
